TORONTO, Ont. (March 30, 2020) — Steam Whistle Craft Brewing Company and Spirit of York Distillery are teaming up to join the effort to provide more hand sanitizer in the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Steam Whistle is donating 350 litres of its beer — equal to almost 43 cases of 24 bottles — that Spirit of York is distilling into hand sanitizer. The finished product is available for purchase at Spirit of York, with all proceeds being donated to local food banks.
“We are all being asked to do our parts to help flatten the curve and stem the spread of COVID-19 virus,” says Tim McLaughlin, Vice-President of Marketing at Steam Whistle. “From self-isolation to physical distancing, it has been a monumental effort on behalf of everybody. Essential in this time is making sure there is ample supplies and equipment. We are proud to partner with Spirit of York Distillery to get more hand sanitizer into the Toronto market where it is really needed.”
The donation is expected to yield about 150 litres of hand sanitizer. At this point, the hand sanitizer is only available at Spirit of York in the Distillery District for $3 a bottle. To ensure a stable supply, consumers are being limited to one bottle per visit.
