Fenwick, ON- Onside Media sat down with Barb Intini, also known as Grandma Dynamite, to discuss her fireworks store that is open year-round and is celebrating its 29th year in business.
How it Began
When Barb and her family rented a home in Fenwick, Ontario, they shared the property with a small fireworks store. After running the store for a few years, Barb purchased the store and began her journey. She focused on growing and sustaining the seasonal business into a store that is open all year. Barb now offers services for commercial shows, weddings, gender reveals, and family-friendly fireworks.
A Focus on Family and Fun
All age groups make the commute from the Niagara Region and beyond. As Barb explains, “everyone loves to blow things up”. As a family-run business, you can often find her children, grandchildren, and extended family working during the busy seasons such as Canada Day and Victoria Day.
Why Victoria Fireworks
Unlike other firework retailers, customers can purchase fireworks during the off-season for any event at Victoria Fireworks. This is because each township or city has its own set of rules and regulations regarding the sale of fireworks. Years ago, Barb underwent the certification process with representation in order to gain the right to sell her products year-round instead of just on holidays. This certification can be taken away at any time by the township because of the actions of others. Losing the right to sell her products is in the hands of the township who decide on firework bans and rules. Barb also underwent certification to have the right to have a store on her property.
Obtaining the right to do this meant she had to obtain logistics and lawyers. Due to the nature of the store environment, Victoria Fireworks is able to stock over 100 different products including multi-shot cakes, smoke grenades, firing systems, sparklers, air bombs, and much more. She is also bringing in new inventory such as 7 shot items.
Barb also makes it easy for guests by offering pre-made kits at various price ranges which includes all the items needed for a well-rounded show on any budget. Safety instructions and videos for products can also be found online.
