Two Canadian films have been added to TIFF’s Discovery program: Karen Chapman’s Village Keeper and Marie-Hélène Viens and Philippe Lupien’s You Are Not Alone. Both will have their world premieres at the festival.
In Village Keeper, Toronto mother Beverly-Jean faces overwhelming grief following a major loss. She is the main provider and protector for her two teenage children, Tamika and Tristin, while also living with her mother in North York. Despite her efforts, Beverly-Jean struggles to see her children’s growth and resilience, clouded by her own troubled past and challenges with racism.
