TORONTO — Award-winning Canadian film producer Don Carmody is investing in the future of Canada’s screen industry with a $100,000 commitment to launch a new international co-production mentorship initiative in partnership with the Canadian Media Producers Association.
The new CMPA Co-Production Mentorship Program is designed to help emerging Canadian producers develop the knowledge, relationships, and practical experience required to build successful international co-productions—an increasingly important part of financing and distributing film and television projects.
The initiative reflects Carmody’s long-standing commitment to strengthening Canada’s creative industry while ensuring the next generation of producers has access to mentorship from experienced industry leaders.
International co-productions have become a vital component of Canada’s film and television ecosystem, allowing producers to collaborate with partners around the world, access larger financing opportunities, and expand global audiences. Through the new mentorship program, participants will gain exposure to the business, legal, creative, and financial aspects of cross-border productions.

Carmody, whose producing career spans decades, has been involved with numerous acclaimed Canadian and international productions and is widely recognized for helping elevate Canada’s reputation as a world-class production hub. His investment aims to remove barriers for emerging producers seeking to navigate the complexities of international partnerships.
The Canadian Media Producers Association welcomed the contribution, describing the program as an opportunity to cultivate future leaders who can continue expanding Canada’s presence in the global content marketplace.
Beyond financial support, the mentorship initiative is expected to foster networking opportunities and practical learning experiences, connecting participants with established producers and industry professionals who have successfully developed international collaborations.
As competition for global audiences continues to grow, initiatives focused on mentorship and knowledge sharing are becoming increasingly important for Canada’s independent production sector. By investing in producer development today, the program seeks to strengthen the country’s ability to create internationally competitive content for years to come.
Applications and additional program details are expected to be announced by the Canadian Media Producers Association.
