The Voice of Hind Rajab is not an easy film to watch and that is exactly why it matters. Written and directed by acclaimed Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, this powerful docu-drama tells the true story of a six-year-old Palestinian girl whose voice, captured through real emergency calls, becomes the emotional core of a film that lingers long after the screen fades to black.
The story unfolds on January 29, 2024, during the evacuation of a Gaza neighbourhood. Hind Rajab is trapped in a car just minutes from home after military gunfire kills her family members around her. Alone, frightened, and increasingly desperate, she remains on the phone with first responders from the Palestine Red Crescent Society, believing help is on the way. An ambulance is only eight minutes away yet those minutes stretch into hours.
This film is deeply intense, it will move you to tears while also forcing you to reflect on the harsh realities unfolding around the world amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
In Canada, the film is being released by Mongrel Media, bringing this essential and deeply human story to Canadian audiences.
The film opens December 25 in Toronto at the TIFF Lightbox, with a wider theatrical rollout across Canada beginning in January. Additional screenings and city listings will be announced as the release expands, with select independent cinemas expected to carry the film nationwide.
