TORONTO, Ont. April, 22, 2020 — One good beer continues to lead to another.
For more than 18 years, the only Steam Whistle beer you would find on store shelves or in your favourite bar or restaurant was a pure Pilsner in its distinctive green bottle or can. Steam Whistle Craft Brewing Company added to that last year with the introduction of its Pale Ale in an equally iconic blue can.
This year, as it celebrates its 20th anniversary as one of Canada’s pioneer premium craft brewers, Steam Whistle Craft is introducing Session Lager, the third beer under the Steam Whistle banner.
“We did well brewing nothing but a pure, premium pilsner, but we heard from our fans that they wanted more from Steam Whistle,” says Tim McLaughin, Vice-President of Marketing at Steam Whistle. “We broke new ground last year with the release of our Pale Ale, and that just whet the appetite of our customers. The new Steam Whistle Session Lager is a full flavour craft beer that is lighter alcohol and lighter in calories.”
Steam Whistle Session Lager sits at 4% alcohol, 190 calories per 473ml and 18 IBU. You can find Session Lager packaged in a matte grey can, appearing on shelves in the LCBO, Beer Store and select grocery stores April 6. Across Canada, the product will also be available in Alberta and British Columbia.
“Session Lager is intriguing without being too challenging and familiar without being uninspiring,” says Erica McOustra, Head Brewer at Steam Whistle “In developing Steam Whistle’s Session Lager, our Brewing Team looked to create a lager that was lighter in alcohol and lower in bitterness than our Pilsner. A highly refreshing beer that showcases the character of its ingredients. Through several trials we arrived at a hop blend with hints of fruit, spice, and slight floral notes which is satisfying without overwhelming the palate. The malt character is crisp and clean with a touch of cereal and classic malt sweetness, and the light body with medium carbonation allows for a smooth finish.”
